Every episode begins with an introduction that explains the main purpose of the show. Penn & Teller come out and are seated at center stage, and eager magicians will perform their acts before them, in front of an audience in the studio. Following each performance, Penn & Teller privately discuss the show while the host questions the magicians. Penn & Teller then reveal their knowledge of the method used to perform the trick, typically using cryptic language or noting down the procedure and then presenting it to the magicians for confirmation, the method, in order to avoid approaching public disclosure of the secrets of the trick.

The Worst 16 Penn and Teller: Fool Us Winners

Fool Us was filmed at Fountain Studios in London, England (season one) and at the Penn and Teller Theater at Las Vegas (season two onward). Each time a show is performed, if Penn & Teller cannot figure out how a trick was performed, the magician(s) who performed the trick get a Fool Us trophy and a five-star trip to Las Vegas to perform as the opening act of Penn & Teller`s show, in addition to The Rio Hotel & Casino. The tenth season premiered on 5 October 2021.

Teller says that doublespeak lets you instruct people on new techniques without revealing the secret. If the trick is genuine, or if Penn & Teller are unable to determine how it was achieved, the magician wins an award called a Fool Us award and the chance to be the opening act in Penn& Teller`s Las Vegas show. A backstage judge who is familiar with the techniques of magicand has seen the trick before the performanceis able to make the necessary changes, regardless of whether Penn & Teller were fooled and, if they were, by how much. After each show, Penn & Teller perform an original magic act.

Penn and Teller have a friendly rapport with the magicians who appear on their show. Penn and Teller`s hosting tasks were temporarily handled from Jonathan Ross in the first season, however they were back for the following season. In season two, the magicians in the top ten who fooled Penn & Teller were invitedback to appear in a special episode of Fool Us in which they each get the opportunity to show their magic act one further and try to fool Penn and Teller for an additional ten thousand dollars cash prize. The magicians are also required to perform during the intermission in Penn& Teller`s live Las Vegas show, where the audience members are not conscious of the illusion is being performed for them. Raymond Teller remains taciturn throughout the the show, but they communicate using subtle gestures to each other. They are known to confer with magicians performing and request for them to repeat specific actions or give more details.

Penn and Teller are known for their contributions to the art of magic, including publishing books on deceit, making instructional videos on the art of card tricks, and performing their own magic show called Penn & Teller, Fool Us.
